Exciting News at Mhai O Mhai!  We are so excited to announce "Tuesdays With Lisa"!  Lisa Brunetta an accomplished artist will be coming into Mhai O Mhai on Tuesday's to share her wealth of jewelry making knowledge with us!

 Lisa will be offering a unique and new learning course every week.  Each class course will include supplies and and light snacks/beverages.  

Each three hour evening will be a fun workshop to introduce a new technique to your beading repertoire.  Lisa will use demonstrations, hands-on practice and supporting documentation to get your creative mind sparkling!

Spacing will be limited- so make sure to sign up early so you are not disspointed!


A little bit about Lisa:

Born in Barrie, ON- Lisa has recently returned to her home town after 22 yrs in the Outaouais region.  Her university studies culminated with a B.A. in Translation at the University of Ottawa.  Primarily self-taught, her art education in a variety of media has been enhanced for the last 20yrs with courses in Ottawa-Gatineau and those at the Haliburton School of the Arts.

Lisa has taught community courses in stained glass and jewellery techniques for four years for the City of Gatineau (Aylmer Sector) through the Aylmer Arts Council in both French and English.  She has exhibited sculpture, jewelery and stained glass in Ontario and Quebec.  She has earned awards for her sculpture, both in the public and from her peers.  Her work has been published and promoted in several newspapers, in a national sculpture magazine and in catalogues.

Class Descriptions:

These three-hour workshops, intended to introduce a new technique to your beading repertoire, use demonstrationsrations, hands-on practice and supporting documentation to get your creative mind sparking.

The instructor will loan the tools and provide the materials kits for each workshop.  Fine motor skills and good vision are necessary to work with what are often very small jewelery components.

1)- The Basics. 

Learn necessary basic techniques for beaded jewelery construction.  Introduction to clasps and  findings of all kinds and the techniques necessary to make the secure attachements.  Learn stringing techniques and stringing variations.  Work with jewelery making tools.  Make a pair of earrings.
SEPT 13th- 1-4pm/ or 6-9pm

2)- Chainmail for Jewelery

Learn the Byzantine Weave and its variations.  Experiment with combining colors, metals and ring sizes.  Incorporate beads into chainmail chains.

3)-  Working with Wire

Make spirals, wraps, clasps adn connectors with different types of metal wire.  Learn how to combine beads and wire.  Make a beaded ring.  Demonstration of Wire Wrapping.

4) - Beaded Embroidery

Working with a needle and thread, learn stitches to embellish fabric and/or stuffed items with beads.  Learn to make fringe.  Incorportate recycled items. 
OCT 4th- 2-4pm/ or 6-8pm  ($40)

5)- Bead Weaving

Working with a needle and thread, learn the Peyote Stitch method of making fabric from beads.  Demonstration of bead weaving on a loom.  Discussion of beads available for this technique.

6) - Wire Bead Crochet

Using a basic chain crochet stitch and fine metal wire, crochet and braid a bracelet with beads incorporated into the stitches.  Demonstration of tubular crochet adn of a tool intended to quickly thread beads.

7)- Micro Macrame

Make beautiful intricate knotted jewelery with a series of simple knots.  Learn basic macrame knots, working with leather cording.  Incorporate beads into your work.  Discuss and practice various finishing techniques.

8)- Tubular Beaded Crochet

Learn the tubular beaded crochet technique to fashion bangles, necklaces, lariats and more.  See how the choice of bead size and shape will modify your design.  Understand tubular crochet beading patterns.  Demonstration of finishing techniques.

Sept 29th- 2-3pm/ or 6-7pm (part 2)  (both parts are included in the $40 class fee)

FUN CLASSES ADDED THIS YEAR!!!

Beaded Beads:  Make your own bead- made of smaller beads!  Learn various weaving techniques to make fabulous focals and attention grabbing accent beads.
Oct 18th- 1-4pm or 6-9pm

Bead Creatures:  Haloween is coming- use a needle and thread to weave together some spooky pumpkins and ghosts!
Oct 25th  1-4  or 6-9pm

Beaded Ornaments:  Create an intracuit sparkly net to drape over a glass Christmas ball. Bring in your own ball or use one of ours...
Nov 1st 1-4pm / or 6-9pm

Beaded Snowflakes
Christmas is coming!  Use a needle and thread with seed beads to create some festive snowflakes. Choose your seed bead size to make either earrings size snowflakes or ornament size!
Nov 8th 1-4pm or 6-9pm

Beaded Wreath
A little bit of wire work- a little bit of Chain Maille... and voila!  a beaded Wreath Ornament!  PERFECT gift topper or tree ornament.  Nov 22nd 1-4pm or 6-9pm

  Maximum of 10 students per session to enhance learning.  Cost : $40 per student per session, materials, use of loaned tools and photocopies of reference materials included.  Minimum of four students per session.
